Feature · Job costing

Know which jobs made money, not which ones felt busy.

Real labour cost from actual clocked hours at each technician's pay rate, materials from logged expenses, revenue from what's genuinely been invoiced — and a margin warning on the invoice before it goes out.

Why it helps

What you get from job costing

Costed from what happened, not what was quoted

Labour comes from real worked hours net of breaks at each person's actual rate; materials from logged expenses; revenue from invoiced value. Not an estimate wearing a profit label.

A margin guardrail on the invoice itself

Open an invoice tied to a job and the app re-checks that job's margin against your threshold (default 40%). Below it, a warning appears right there — a warning, never a block, because a below-threshold price is sometimes the right call.

Internal numbers stay internal

Cost and margin are gated to owners, dispatchers, and accountants. A technician with invoicing permission sees the warning without the underlying dollar figures — alerted to check pricing, not shown the business's cost base.

How it works

Three steps, start to finish

01

Technicians clock in and out against the job; breaks are subtracted automatically.

02

Materials and other costs get logged as expenses against the job.

03

The job's profit and margin update live, and the guardrail warns you before an under-margin invoice goes out.

Straight answer

What this doesn't do

Every limit below was checked against the code. We'd rather you find them here than three weeks after migrating.

  • Overhead isn't modelled — there's no way to allocate rent, insurance, or vehicle costs across jobs. Margin here is direct cost only.
  • Costing depends on technicians actually clocking in and expenses actually being logged against the job.
Questions

Common questions

No — the invoice margin card is computed from that invoice's own line-item cost data, entirely independently of job costing, precisely so multi-invoice jobs don't double-count.
